If it feels like graphics cards have quietly become luxury items, that's because they have. As of August 2026, the flagship GeForce RTX 5090 — a card that launched at $1,999 in January 2025 — now sells for $4,929.99 on Nvidia's own store. In South Korea, retailers are already clearing ₩7,300,000, or roughly $5,112. AMD isn't offering an escape route either: the company just confirmed at least a 10% price increase on Radeon GPUs and memory kits, effective this month, erasing what used to be a meaningful value gap with GeForce cards at the same performance tier.
This isn't a temporary blip caused by a hot new game or a crypto rally. It's the result of several forces converging at once, and analysts are warning buyers not to expect relief for at least another year — possibly two.
